Correlation of Estrogen and Progesterone Receptor expression in Breast Cancer

چکیده
Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor among women. It accounts for 22% of all female cancers; more than twice the prevalence of cancer in women at any other site. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is now the globally accepted methodology for detection of estrogen (ER) and progesterone (PR) receptors in breast carcinomas. The present study is designed for further insight into age and biology of ER and PR expression pattern in breast cancer patient of Bihar, India. Samples were obtained from biopsy and analyzed for ER/PR expression through Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Data were collected and statistically analyzed. It was observed that mean age of ER+ positive breast cancer patients were 47 years, while mean age of PR positive patient were 44 years. Two third patients had either ER or PR is positive while one third had both negative. In our study we observed 6.4 % patients with ER negative and PR positive. Thus it is concluded that two third of breast cancer patients was positive for hormone receptor. ER/PR positive indicates over-expression of estrogen and progesterone in carcinoma breast. ER negative and PR positive group was also observed in significant number of breast cancer patients. ER negative were observed in early age group of breast cancer while PR negative were observed in higher age group patients.

Relation between Estrogen and Progesterone Receptor Status with p53, Ki67 and Her-2 Markers in Patients with Breast Cancer
Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, containing approximately one third of all illnesses in women. Assessment of molecular markers is valuable in predicting the outcome of disease and decision making for optimal treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between estrogen and progesterone receptors with Her-2, Ki67, P53, and clinicopathologica...
متن کاملCorrelation of Hormone Receptor Expression with Histologic Parameters in Benign and Malignant Breast Tumors
Background and Objective: Breast cancer is the commonest cancer of Indian women. Estrogen and Progesterone expression is seen in benign breast lesions and in breast carcinoma associated with good prognostic parameters and it correlates well with response to hormone therapy. Although a lot of studies have been conducted in the past on hormone receptor expression in breast cancer and few have cor...

Background &Objectives;: Evaluation of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and (human epidermal growth factor receptor-2) Her-2 on core needle biopsies (CNBs) is increasingly in use to diagnosis early breast cancer, but its concordance with surgical excision (SE) is not well documented. Methods: The study ...
متن کاملMale Breast Carcinoma: An Immunohistochemical Study Of 50 Cases From Iran
Background and Objective: Male breast carcinoma (MBC) is an unusual form of neoplasia, representing 0.7 to 1 percent of all breast cancer cases. Usually, the carcinoma affects patients after the sixth decade. The aim of this study was to evaluate the status of estrogen and progesterone receptors (ER and PR) and prognostic factors (p53 and Her-2/neu) in a series of male patients with breast canc...

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the first cause of cancer-related death in women worldwide. Although admirable achievements have been made in finding new therapeutic interventions, introducing efficient approaches with the least side effect is still undoubtedly demanded. Exposure to extremely-low frequency electromagnetic field (ELF-EMF) with specific parameters of fre...
متن کاملPrognostic Values of Estrogen and Progesterone Expression Receptors in Ovarian Papillary Serous Carcinoma
Background and Objectives: Presence of steroid hormone receptors (estrogen and progesterone) in the tumor tissues of various organs correlates with response to therapy and prognosis. Since their role in ovarian cancer is still controversial, in this study we investigated the expression and prognostic value of the estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) in ovarian papillary ser...
